Pediatric Dental Exams in Noblesville, IN
More than a cavity check: we track how your child's whole smile is growing.
A dental exam is where the dentist diagnoses problems and follows your child’s development. It’s different from a dental cleaningClick to open in this tab, which removes plaque and tartar, though the two usually happen at the same visit.
Along with checking every tooth, we look at the gums, tongue, and cheeks for sores or unusual spots, watch how new teeth are coming in, and see how the upper and lower teeth fit together.
Each exam also includes:
Some exams include dental X-raysClick to open in this tab, picked to fit your child’s history and findings rather than a set routine. Book a checkup at (317) 773-5437Click to call us.

Most kids return about every six months, though your child’s risk may call for a different schedule.
For babies and toddlers, exams focus on how teeth are arriving, feeding and teething questions, and care at home. Families with little ones can find more on infant oral careClick to open in this tab.
A dental exam isn’t a replacement for your child’s medical checkups, but we’ll let you know if we notice anything your pediatrician should see.
-
How is a dental exam different from a cleaning?
A cleaning removes plaque and tartar and polishes the teeth. An exam is the dentist’s evaluation of the teeth, gums, bite, and overall development.
Most checkups include both, and you’ll hear about anything from the exam that needs follow-up.
-
How often should kids have a dental exam?
Every six months works for most kids. Children at higher risk for cavities may need to come in more often.
Exams are one part of our preventive and early careClick to open in this tab, which also includes sealants, X-rays, and mouthguards.
-
When will my child need dental X-rays?
When there’s a reason to look between or beneath the teeth, such as spots we can’t see directly, a history of cavities, or an injury.
How often depends on your child’s risk and what we find, and we keep exposure as low as we can.
-
At what age is the first exam?
As soon as that first tooth shows up, and by 12 months at the latest. Early exams help us catch problems while they’re small.
The first dental visitClick to open in this tab page explains how that appointment goes.
-
Will you check for orthodontic problems?
Yes. Each exam includes a look at how the teeth and jaws are growing and fitting together.
If we notice crowding or bite concerns, we’ll talk about whether early-start orthodonticsClick to open in this tab could help.
