Pediatric Dental Cleanings in Noblesville, IN
Here's what happens at a kids' cleaning, and how we keep it comfortable.
A pediatric cleaning removes the plaque and hardened tartar that brushing misses, then polishes the teeth smooth. We adjust the tools and the pace to your child, whether it’s a toddler’s first cleaning or a teen’s routine visit.
We also look over the gums, cheeks, and tongue, and a dentist usually does a dental examClick to open in this tab during the same appointment.

Some kids hop right into the chair, and others need a little time. At Smiling Kids Pediatric DentistryClick to open in this tab in Noblesville, IN, we walk your child through each step in kid-friendly words and help them get comfortable before we start.
-
Step 1: Say Hello and Settle In
We start by chatting with your child, answering their questions, and making sure they feel at ease in the chair.
-
Step 2: Clean and Polish
Using gentle, kid-friendly tools, we clear away plaque and tartar, then polish and floss each tooth.
-
Step 3: Review and Plan
We share what we noticed, go over home care, and set the next visit, usually in about six months.
Wiggly or nervous kids are welcome here. If your child needs a break, we take one, and progress over a few visits is still progress.
Between visits, brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and floss where teeth touch. Kids often need help longer than parents expect, so here’s when a child can brush without helpClick to open in this tab. How often should my child get a dental cleaning?
Most kids do well with a cleaning about every six months. Children who get cavities easily may benefit from visits more often.
We’ll recommend the schedule that fits your child’s teeth and history.
-
When should my child have their first cleaning?
Cleanings can start as soon as there are teeth to clean. For babies and toddlers, that may be a quick, gentle brushing during the visit.

-
Does every cleaning include X-rays and fluoride?
No. We decide on X-rays based on your child’s history, cavity risk, and what we see, so some visits include them and many don’t.
Fluoride varnish works the same way. We’ll suggest it when it’s a good fit for your child’s teeth.
-
What if my child is nervous or won't sit still?
That’s common, especially with toddlers. We keep instructions simple, take breaks when needed, and work with you on what helps your child relax.
Many kids who are unsure at first grow more comfortable as the visits become familiar.
-
We're switching from another dentist. What should we bring?
Bring your insurance card and a list of any medicines your child takes, and fill out the forms under patient resourcesClick to open in this tab before you come.
Let us know who your previous dentist was. With your permission, recent X-rays and records can often be shared, which may help avoid repeating them.
